The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge was completed in three years and eight months and now links two major tourist destinations. Officials hope it will serve as both a vital transportation route and a major tourist magnet, drawing visitors from around the world. With its bold engineering, dramatic scenery, and sky-high attractions, the bridge stands as both a symbol of human innovation and a new pinnacle for adventure tourism in China.
The structure claims the title of the world’s highest bridge, with a deck approximately 625 metres (2,050 feet) above the Beipan River. It also spans about 2,890 metres in total length, with a 1,420-metre main span, making it one of the longest bridges in a mountainous region.Beyond its engineering marvel, the bridge is part of a broader national effort to improve infrastructure and economic conditions in remote areas. As one source puts it, the project is aligned with China’s efforts to reduce poverty by investing heavily in transportation in Guizhou province.
If you’ve ever imagined sipping your morning coffee while floating half a mile above the earth, China’s latest architectural wonder makes that dream a reality. The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge opened for traffic on September 28, 2025. One of its showpiece attractions is a glass-walled café called Interstellar Coffee, perched 800 metres (2,624 feet) above the ground atop one of the bridge towers. It features two floors enclosed entirely in glass, offering 360-degree panoramic views of the canyon and the river far below. The café currently serves Captain George Coffee, with plans to expand its offerings.
Reaching the café is an experience in itself: visitors use a high-speed glass elevator, which can reach the top in under a minute, giving a thrilling preview of the views to come. The bridge also features a 1,900-foot glass walkway and activities like bungee jumping from the bridge’s heights.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge has already gained international attention for its record-breaking design. It cuts travel time across the canyon from two hours to just two minutes, drastically improving connectivity in this rugged region.
