A dramatic apartment building collapse in Benetússer, near Valencia, was caught on camera after residents narrowly escaped disaster by evacuating just minutes earlier.
The three-storey block gave way shortly after occupants noticed unusual cracking sounds coming from the structure. Video footage captures pieces of the building breaking off and falling to the ground before the entire building suddenly caves in, collapsing into a massive pile of debris within seconds.
Fortunately, no one was inside when the building fell. Residents had left after becoming alarmed by the strange noises and visible signs of damage. At the time, many had been watching Spain's victory over France, which secured a place in a potential final against England, when they realized something was wrong
Concerned for their safety, they contacted emergency services and quickly evacuated. Police and firefighters responded swiftly, setting up a security perimeter around the building to keep people away before the collapse occurred. The alarm was raised at around 10 p.m. local time, while Spain were leading the match 1-0 following a penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal.
As a precaution, emergency crews also cleared a neighbouring building. Initial reports suggest the collapse may have been connected to construction work taking place on an adjacent site.
Local firefighters later confirmed that the building had collapsed without causing any injuries. They said residents had already left the property after noticing cracks and unusual noises coming from the structure, which is located on Las Américas Street beside an active construction site.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how many people have been displaced or where they will be accommodated temporarily.
Benetússer was among the communities hardest hit by the devastating storms and flooding that struck the Valencia region in October 2024, a disaster that claimed more than 230 lives.
