Jerusalem is set to reveal Israel's longest suspension bridge on the evening of August 6. The bridge will link Mount Zion with the Hinnom Valley to the south and it will enhance pedestrian access to Mount Zion's sacred sites and Jerusalem's Old City.
The new suspension bridge will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. exclusively for pedestrians. Children under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
Funding for the 20 million shekels ($5.4 million) project came from the Ministry of Jerusalem and Israel Tradition, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Jerusalem Municipality in collaboration with the Jerusalem Development Authority and the Moriah Company.
On the Mount Zion side, tourists will find various attractions, such as King David's Tomb, the Room of the Last Supper, the Chamber of the Holocaust, and Dormition Abbey. To proceed into the Old City, pedestrians can simply walk through Zion Gate.
The southern end of the bridge is close to the historic agricultural farm in Gai Ben Hinnom. Nearby, tourists can explore attractions like the City of David National Park, Sultan’s Pool, and the First Station shopping and restaurant complex.
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon sees the suspension bridge as a valuable addition to the city's tourism, emphasizing the continuous effort to upgrade tourist sites and promote both internal and external tourism in Jerusalem, being the leading city in Israel.
