World’s largest rope bridge in Hungary will be released to the public early in the summer

Soon, the public will have the opportunity to enjoy the impressive pedestrian suspension bridge, known as the Bridge of National Unity, which is set to be opened this year (at the beginning of the summer). Specifically, the Hungarian government, via its Facebook page, announced the forthcoming inauguration of the Bridge of National Unity in Sátoraljaújhely, located in northeastern Hungary along the Slovak border.

The bridge is weighing hundreds of tonnes, will be supported by six steel cables and the center of the bridge will feature extensive glass panels. As of present, the construction of the bridge is underway. It is mentioned that crossing the bridge may pose a challenge for tourists afraid of heights. However, the structure will be exceptionally stable, even in strong winds.

In addition, the government stated that load testing is currently underway on the 700-meter-long rope pedestrian suspension bridge, which connects Szár Hill and Vár Hill. The government's social media page showcased spectacular images of one of the world's longest pedestrian suspension bridges. Although the project's estimated cost was EUR 6.5 million in 2017, the final amount has not been disclosed yet and will be announced short term.

This iconic construction is poised to earn Hungary a place in the Guinness World Records and as Péter Szamosvölgyi, the city's mayor at the time, had stated, he anticipated that the bridge alone could attract up to a million additional visitors annually and potentially generate 100 new jobs.
