Plans for the tallest skyscraper outside London have been officially approved for Manchester, marking a significant milestone in the city’s evolving skyline. The 76-storey tower, set to rise 246 meters, will be located in the city center and is being developed by Salboy. Founded in 2014 by BetFred owner Fred Done, Salboy has played a major role in shaping the high-rise landscape of both Manchester and neighboring Salford.
The tower is part of a two-building proposal by Salboy. Once completed, it will feature 452 luxury flats and a 160-bed hotel. The second building—a smaller, 23-storey structure—has also received approval from Manchester City Council and will provide 133 affordable apartments, aiming to meet a broader range of housing needs.
Simon Ismail, Salboy’s managing director, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating it will shape Manchester’s skyline for years to come. He added that the development, named Viadux 2, is designed to meet the city’s growing demand for high-quality accommodation across various price points.
According to the developer, the 76-storey skyscraper is set to become the tallest residential building in Western Europe. A company spokesperson emphasized that the flats will be luxury residences, catering to both local residents and international visitors.
