Florida: Hurricane Helen flashed away Kisner Bridge

On Saturday, September 28, around 1:55 p.m. local time, the Kisner Bridge, located at Highway 107 in the town of Afton gave way and fell into the Nolichucky River after extreme flooding, due to category 4 Helene hurricane.

According to officials, the Helen hurricane approached Florida’s Big Bend on Thursday, September 26, followed by heavy rainfall and causing floods at the Southest of the state. Media had released that east Tennessee was affected, as at Nolichucky River the water level rose to Kisner Bridge level. The water created a strong stream that swept away trees and debris that eventually destroyed the bridge.

Eyewitnesses recorded the incident as they were nearby the moment of the bridge collapse. Afterwards, the remaining parts of the structure were swept away by the water. It is mentioned that only the sections of the highway remained untouched.

In all, the extreme weather conditions continue to impact Florida leading to significant disruptions and hazards. Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flooding have caused damage to infrastructure, forced evacuations, and posed risks to public safety. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and prepared for potential emergencies.
