Delhi: A 3-storey building collapsed – at least three fatalities

On Wednesday, August 20, at around 12:14 p.m. local time, an old three-storey building collapsed in Sadbhavna Park near Delhi’s Daryaganj, India, resulting in three fatalities and leaving three others severely injured. The injured were transferred to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

According to authorities, Delhi Fire Services, with the support of Delhi Police and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), promptly arrived at the site and launched rescue operations to save those trapped beneath the debris. As of now, rescue teams are still working to clear the rubble and ensure no one remains trapped.

The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined; however, experts suggest that the building’s advanced age and deteriorating condition were likely contributing factors. An investigation is currently underway to identify the exact cause.

Officials have also expressed concern about nearby buildings, many of which are in a similar state of disrepair. The incident has drawn attention to the broader issue of aging infrastructure in the area, where structures often suffer from minimal maintenance.

Authorities have stated they are committed to addressing the situation by enforcing stronger regulations, improving urban planning, and ensuring proactive repair or replacement of aging buildings.
