A bridge collapsed in Ridgway, Elk County causing injuries to 3 construction workers, who were on the bridge during the accident. PennDOT Assistant District Executive for Construction Ben LaParne said "The ones that sustained injuries were the workers, the subcontractor that was doing the saw cutting underneath the bridge. The two workers on top of the deck received bumps and bruises as they slid down the deck and into the backhoe."
"We were actually gonna get gas and we came down and saw a bunch of fire trucks everywhere," said bystander Kaitlin Yankovich.
It should be mentioned that there was a hydraulic excavator on the bridge, which weighs about 84,000 pounds. Engineers are not sure if the excavator caused the dramatic collapse, however, the accident is under investigation.
