Last Saturday, around 11am local time, a balcony partially collapsed in South Mumbai resulting in the death of an elderly woman while four others were injured. The survivors were promptly transferred to the hospital to receive medical help. The incident took place at Rubinnisa Manzil on Sleater Road, near the Grant Road railway station. It should be noted that the building had been deemed unsafe by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation prior to the collapse.
As local authorities had stated, a section of the balcony gave way with parts of the slabs from the second and third floors. As of present, the reason of the collapse is not known, but authorities suggest that the incident may have been triggered by the heavy rainfall in the area.
In all, the rescue teams have completed the search and rescue operation and have already removed all the unstable sections to ensure public safety.
