Morocco Building Collapse: at least two fatalities

According to local officials, a textile building in Tit Mellil, located in the Casablanca-Settat region, experienced a partial collapse, resulting in the loss of two lives and serious injuries to five others. Some of the injured people were transported to Mediouna hospital for immediate medical attention. 

Upon receiving notification of the incident at 4 a.m., security authorities and civil protection services promptly arrived at the scene. Rescue efforts are ongoing to save three individuals who remain trapped under the debris. 

The local authorities have initiated an investigation supervised by the Public Prosecution to determine the cause of the incident. This event has once again drawn attention to the prevalence of structurally unstable buildings in Casablanca, highlighting concerns regarding workplace safety. 

Less than a year ago, heavy rainfall in the region caused a house in the city to collapse, resulting in the loss of three lives. The house, which collapsed at 1:30 a.m., was already identified as being at risk of collapse by local authorities. Consequently, residents have called upon the authorities to find a solution to the recurring problem of building collapses in the city.
