A 29-year-old construction worker lost his life Thursday afternoon after a tunnel he was working in collapsed beneath a building in Coppell, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue officials.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at 2275 Sage Hill Lane around 3:19 p.m. following reports that a worker had become trapped during a trench collapse. Authorities said the crew had been manually excavating a tunnel underneath the building when the structure gave way, burying one of the workers.
Specialized teams from DFW Urban Search and Rescue joined the recovery effort. Rescuers entered the building, cut through the concrete floor, and removed approximately three feet of soil to reach the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
