The project of the Bridge Farm Bridge paused due to concrete problems

On Wednesday 9^th of October, Suffolk Highways announced that the replacement of the Bridge Farm Bridge at Stowlangtoft that is located on the A1088 has stopped. They stated that they discovered a structural issue with the new concrete columns that they installed, and they are under discussion with the concrete suppliers and other stakeholders to evaluate the situation. In addition, they stated that they will further investigate the problem that occurred and then they will decide how to solve it.

It should be noted that the section of the road where the operations were undergoing was closed since July, while the first prediction for completion was December 20. As of present, Suffolk Highways acknowledge that the pause of the replacement of the bridge might extend the timeline that they have initially submitted, but they are committed to complete the project as soon as possible. The exact timeframe for the completion is not known yet and thus they will not change it until a revised schedule is established.

In all, according to their statement, the warning signs indicate the road closure will continue to exist as the road during this halt in work is deemed unsafe, hence, it will still be closed as it is excavated to facilitate the bridge's demolition. In accordance with the above, they shared their apologies to the community for the delay of reopening the road.
