New bridge to be constructed at Daugava River in Riga

After the 2023 bridge fire, the rebuilding of the Rail Baltica bridge over the Daugava River in Riga has begun. This project marks a new phase in the city's infrastructure development. The project is set to finish by summer 2025 at a cost of $16 million.

The bridge's length will be around 1.15 km with a width of nearly 17 meters. It will consist of 15 spans in total. The longest span, stretching over the Daugava, measures 87 meters, while over the Small Daugava, it's 47 meters. Additionally, the new bridge will have Rail Baltica tracks positioned approximately 2 meters higher than those on the existing railway bridge.

The reconstruction of the Rail Baltica bridge under the supervision of 'BERERIX' construction association, symbolizes resilience, progress, and dedication to Riga's future. It will be a reinforced concrete structure designed to blend with the cityscape and ensure navigational freedom on the river. The construction will be supervised by Egis-Deutsche Bahn to safeguard that the rebuilding of the bridge will exceed all the expectations.

Preservation of navigational liberty is a priority, with supports strategically placed to avoid any obstruction. The new Rail Baltica bridge is crucial for connecting Riga's center to the airport and facilitating the daily passage of around 3,000 vehicles. The construction is expected to last approximately three years, promising a stronger bridge than the previous one.
