A bridge in Alcala, Cagayan province collapsed on Monday afternoon, October 6, cutting off vehicular passage on the route. The structure, known locally as the Piggatan Bridge, failed suddenly as several ten-wheeler trucks were crossing it, according to initial reports.
The local Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in Alcala stated that the collapse rendered the bridge impassable for all vehicles. At present, authorities are investigating whether any injuries occurred in the incident.
Photographs released by the Cagayan Provincial Information Office show a break in the bridge span and scattered debris, though the full extent of structural damage is still being assessed.
Emergency crews and engineers are expected to conduct structural evaluations and determine whether foot traffic can be temporarily allowed or whether full reconstruction will be required. The bridge serves as an important link in the local road network—its closure is likely to affect transport and logistics in Alcala and surrounding municipalities.
Further updates may emerge in coming hours as officials confirm casualty data, assess cause hypotheses (such as overloading or structural decay), and outline plans for repair or replacement.
