Officials are reporting that one person died and another was injured Monday night when a bridge collapsed on an I-75 overpass in Cincinnati, Ohio. The collapse occurred around 10:30 last night. Officials are reporting that the casualty was a construction workers and the injured person was a semi-truck driver. The semi-truck driver sustained multiple lacerations and is considered lucky to have survived.
The overpass bridge that collapsed was being demolished and was not the recently completed overpass bridge that is already open as some originally reported. The collapse was described as a pancake collapse causing the section of the bridge to crumble onto interstate 75. Southbound I-75 has been shut down indefinitely until the scene can be investigated and cleared. Cincinatti officials have tweeted that the interstate could be closed for two days, and told commuters to plan ahead, leave early, and expect delays.
