Thailand: The 54km Burapha Withi Expressway held the title of world’s longest bridge for over a decade

The Bang Na Expressway, officially known as Burapha Withi Expressway, in Thailand, held the title of the world's longest bridge for a decade between 2000 and 2010. The bridge captivates people with its innovative design. The bridge spans an impressive 54,71km, boasts a width of 27m and consists of six lanes.

It is functioning as a toll road above National Highway 34, which is under the ownership of the Expressway Authority of Thailand, with its entire length opened on February 7, 2000. Rethinking the Future, a platform spotlighting architectural excellence worldwide, examined deeper into the bridge's significance. It is mentioned that, initially the bridge was designed to alleviate traffic congestion, but it has transformed into a crucial artery for both commuters and cargo transportation.

Moreover, these expressways contribute significantly to Bangkok's aesthetic. Their towering flyovers and intricate urban design are shaping a distinct skyline, showcasing the fusion of functionality and architectural beauty.

In all, Thailand's ambitions don't seem to end there, as The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has already drafted plans for 11 new expressway projects in the Bangkok metropolitan area and provinces over the next decade.
