Canada’s tallest building has officially hit a major milestone, reaching its 100th floor as it rises above Toronto’s downtown skyline from its waterfront location at 1 Yonge St.
This week, reporters were given a first look inside the Pinnacle SkyTower, a mixed-use residential skyscraper that will ultimately stand 106 storeys high and include 958 housing units.
The tower now surpasses every other building in the city, including First Canadian Place—located just a few blocks north—which has held the title of Canada’s tallest completed building since 1975 at 72 storeys.
Anson Kwok, Pinnacle International’s vice-president of sales and marketing said that they have spent 13 years bringing this master-planned community to life and added that the first building in Canada to reach 100 storeys is a huge achievement. Kwok noted that constructing a building of this scale makes a lot of sense but is worthwhile given Canada’s housing shortage, as it maximizes existing infrastructure while creating new residential communities.
According to the developer, the uppermost floors of the Pinnacle SkyTower will sit at roughly the same height as the CN Tower’s observation deck. The CN Tower, still the country’s tallest free-standing structure, reaches 553m—about 200m taller than Pinnacle’s tower. It is noted that construction is expected to wrap up in 2026, with residents moving into the lower levels as early as next summer.
The Pinnacle SkyTower forms part of the larger One Yonge development, which also includes the old Toronto Star building. The developer announced this week that the former newspaper headquarters will be transformed into a hotel rather than demolished.
