A three-storey 1900’s building located in Saint- Henri, Montreal partially collapsed on Monday 26th of August. Montreal's firefighters promptly arrived at the site to investigate whether anyone was trapped beneath the rubble. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The reason for the collapse is not known yet, hence the inspectors of the city of Montreal are investigating the reasons that led to this collapse.
According to reports, the exterior wall of the building gave way and fell onto a lot beside the structure, where a large excavation had taken place. The operations next to the building were legal as they had guaranteed a legal permit to construct a new three-storey building. However, authorities are linking the collapse to construction work being carried out near the building. In all, George Bele, who is the Division Chief, added that to ensure public safety they have ruled the evacuation of nearby buildings, under the fear of another collapse.
