Mall roof collapse in Peru: 6 fatalities and at least 78 injuries

On Friday, February 21, a catastrophic incident occurred in northwestern Peru when the roof of a food court collapsed at a shopping mall, resulting in six fatalities and leaving at least 78 people severely injured. The heavy roof gave way at the Real Plaza Trujillo shopping mall in La Libertad, trapping dozens of people beneath the rubble. Rescue teams, assisted by the fire department and search dogs, promptly arrived at the scene.

As of now, there are no signs of life beneath the debris; however, search efforts are continuing for possible survivors. Additionally, Mario Reyna, the mayor of Trujillo, has ordered the closure of the entire shopping center due to fears of further collapse. He also stated that authorities will inspect other commercial establishments to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

In a press conference, Walter Astudillo expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and confirmed the number of fatalities. The cause of the collapse remains unknown, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact reasons behind the tragedy.
