Fire erupts in Hong Kong skyscraper under construction
A 42-story skyscraper, which was being constructed in Hong Kong, caught on fire late on Thursday night.
Falling sparks and debris caused about 170 people to be evacuated from the shopping area, while around 250 firefighters and rescue workers battled the flames for 9 hours.
The fire was eventually put out around 8.30 a.m. Friday, leaving an aftermath of 2 people injured and damages of up to $64 million, the city’s most expensive yet.
The building is an Empire Group project, meant to house the city’s Mariner’s Club and a hotel.
According to local media, the fire is suspected to have started from the bamboo scaffolding outside of the building.
