An out-of-control Ferry smashed into the port of Barcelona causing a crane to collapse and triggering a huge fire.
The incident occurred on Wednesday 31 of October. It was caused due to bad weather according to union bosses. The crane toppled over and fell on the ground provoking a huge eruption. An alert for dangerous chemicals was issued, fire authorities said.
According to a Barcelona city's spokeswoman, nobody was injured. Firefighting vehicles and ambulances rushed at the port to address the issue. The fire was put out hours after the ship crashed.
The Italian firm that owns the ferry, Grandi Navi Veloci, stated that the ship deviated from its course and was forced to collide with the crane due to currents and strong winds.
An alert for sea pollution was activated by the civil protection department.
