The number of people killed in the collapse of a nine-story building under construction in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City, has climbed to 30 as search, rescue, retrieval, and clearing operations entered their 17th day on Tuesday.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Central Luzon, which is leading the operations, the latest victim was recovered from the site at 12:18 a.m. The discovery came only a few hours after responders retrieved the 29th victim at 9:37 p.m. on Monday, as operations continued more than two weeks after the building collapsed on May 24.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the most recently recovered victim, as verification procedures are still underway.
Earlier reports from authorities indicated that some of the deceased found at the site were not construction workers, prompting concerns about the actual number of people who may have been inside the building when it gave way.
