On Tuesday morning, September 21st 2021, at 8:14 am local time a strong earthquake shook buildings in the Chilean city of Concepcion. No immediate reports of damage were made.
The earthquake hit Chile, Provincia de Concepción, Region del Biobio which was the epicenter, 158.88km northwest of Lebu. The magnitude according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) was 6.2 and the hypocenter depth was about 2 km, very close to the surface, which was the reason that the quake was felt strongly.
Towns or cities which felt the temblor included Talcahuano 84km away from the epicentre, Arauco 85km away, Coronel 87km away, Lota 88km away and Concepcion 90km away.
Just 24 hours earlier, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) had reported a magnitude 4.4 earthquake near Concepcion, Provincia de Concepción, Region del Biobio in Chile. The earthquake struck at a shallow depth of 11km beneath the epicenter on Monday morning at 8:58am local time.
