Thuan An Bridge, the longest bridge crossing a sea estuary in central Vietnam, is expected to be fully completed by July 30 following delays caused by difficulties in land clearance.
According to Nguyen Van Cuong, deputy director of Hue’s transport infrastructure project management board, the first phase of the coastal road and Thuan An Bridge project is now nearly finished, with only a small number of remaining works to be completed.
The 3.24-kilometre northern approach has already been completed, while construction on the 2.19-kilometre southern approach is entering its final stage after being slowed by land acquisition issues. Road surface and traffic safety infrastructure are currently being installed.
The project consists of nearly 22km of coastal road and the 2.36-kilometre Thuan An Bridge, which spans the Thuan An Estuary. It has a total investment of approximately VND 3.5 trillion (around USD 134 million). Once completed, it is expected to enhance coastal transportation, improve regional connectivity, and contribute to economic growth, tourism development, and national defense efforts.
Construction began in March 2022 but faced delays due to challenges in site clearance. The bridge was opened for trial traffic on April 30, while work on the connecting roads continues toward final completion.
