Assam's road bridge is scheduled for inauguration on August 28th

Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that the longest road bridge in the state, spanning from Kamakhya Gate to Maligaon in west Guwahati, is set to be inaugurated on August 28, 2023. The bridge, constructed over a 2.63km stretch, has reached an impressive 93% completion by August 1, 2023, with a project cost of Rs 420.75 crore.

The main bridge's foundation and sub-structure, along with its Pandu arm, have been successfully finished. Progress on the superstructure has left only two out of 124 deck slabs to be completed, and one deck slab remains unfinished in the Pandu arm.

Approach-wise, the Maligaon end boasts a 95% completion rate for the reinforced earth wall, while the Kamakhya and Pandu ends are at 80% and 95% respectively. A substantial 1,020m of the 1,600-meter drain has been completed, though the service lane and parking areas are still undergoing construction.

While the deadline for the flyover's completion is October 23, 2023, vehicular movement is expected to commence on August 28, 2023, significantly alleviating traffic congestion in west Guwahati once the project is fully operational.
