On 18th of July 2016, construction started for a new part of University Pediatric Center of Louisville in U.S.A. The completion of the structure is scheduled to be in July of 2018 and the cost is estimated at$79 million, as Louisville Business First reported. The aim is the expansion of the medical offices of University Pediatric Center, so that easy access to pediatrics doctors and medical care is provided in one location.
The new facility, which will be occupy a 170,000 square meters area, will be the first pediatrics care building for children in the state of Kentucky and the construction will be under the supervision of the local office of GBBN and Atlanta-based Stanley Beaman & Sears. The architects plan an eight-story building with glass and metal panels and wide windows on the upper floors. The use of glass is intended to generate play feelings for children and it helps the natural light to dissipate inside the building. Moreover, a three-story lobby will host the little patients, when they want to go for a walk out of their rooms. Given its use, the materials used in construction were selected carefully to provide a sterile and healthy environment.
The current pediatrician medical center is located next to the new building, and the connection between the buildings will be succeeded with pedestrian bridges. The new facility, which will contain seven clinical floors as well as a lab and pharmacy and radiology services, will be connected with the Physicians Outpatient Center, which is part of the current medical center, across Chestnut Street. Through other bridges, occupants can easily reach the hospital or the garage.
