A two-story building located in New York's Brooklyn collapsed after a car crashed into it.

The incident occurred on Monday, May 6, 2019. According to officials, the 20-year-old driver of the vehicle was injured due to the crash that caused the building's collapse.

"It was really loud. It sounded like an explosion. I came downstairs to see what happened and we saw the building collapsed and we were shocked," Jose Ramirez, a neighbor, stated.

The residents were not inside the structure at the time of the crash. Both their building and an adjacent one were immediately evacuated after more than 100 firefighters rushed to the scene. Right after the incident, Wayne Cartwright, Brooklyn Borough Commander Assistant Chief, stated: "Right now, we are going to remain on the scene with multiple agencies, including the NYPD, Buildings and OEM, awaiting heavy equipment that will come in this morning to remove the debris and attempt to make the situation as safe as possible."

According to the police, the driver, who was out-of-control, attempted to run away despite his wounds but he was later arrested and taken to the hospital, fortunately with no life-threatening injuries.
