Three fatalities due to bar collapse in Chamiers Road, Chennai

In the area of Chamiers Road in Chennai's Alwarpet district, the roof of the Sekhmet Bar collapsed on Thursday 28^th of March, claiming the lives of three people. Unfortunately, the bar was open at the time of the incident. According to investigators, it was the first-floor roof that gave way, although there are different opinions regarding the cause of the collapse.

There have been several speculations, with some arguing that the incident occurred because of the ongoing metro rail construction near the bar. Abash Kumar, the chief of state fire services, said to the local media that two identified workers were among the casualties. Efforts continue to search for potential survivors.

Despite these statements, the Chennai Metro rail authorities have refused any connection between their construction activities and the collapse. They claimed that the site that they were working at was 240 feet away. They also stated that an investigation is being initiated to identify the cause of the incident. Additionally, plans are underway to conduct audits on nearby structures to assess any possible repercussions caused by the metro rail construction.

The Joint Commissioner of Poli emphasized the necessity to examine the metro rail operations during the relevant timeframe to evaluate their potential impact. At the same time, authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with experts being enlisted to assess the structural integrity of the building.
