Bentley Systems, announced the finalists for structural engineering in the 2025 Going Digital Awards. The awards celebrate the extraordinary achievements of engineers and project teams in advancing infrastructure for better quality of life through digital innovation.
The 2025 Going Digital Awards finalists demonstrate how leading infrastructure engineering and construction companies and owner-operators are transforming project delivery and asset performance. Finalists across 12 categories were selected by independent panels of global industry experts from among nearly 250 nominations submitted by organizations in 47 countries.
“We are inspired by the ways infrastructure professionals continue to deliver better, more resilient infrastructure, despite so many global challenges, from climate change to infrastructure workforce shortages,” said Chris Bradshaw, chief sustainability and education officer, Bentley Systems. “This year’s Going Digital Awards finalists demonstrate the tangible impact advances in AI, digital twins, and more are having in driving greater productivity and resilience across the infrastructure lifecycle.”
Finalists will present their projects at Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure conference in Amsterdam, with the winners announced on October 16. This global gathering of infrastructure leaders highlights the trends and technologies shaping infrastructure sectors.
Hyundai Engineering: Design automation for modular and precast concrete structures with STAAD
As plant structures become larger and more complex, making on-site construction methods challenging and inefficient, companies like Hyundai Engineering are developing smart, automated design systems. For this project, Hyundai is developing a modular transportation analysis system and a precast (PC) concrete design system to overcome costly manual methods and avoid outsourcing of module transportation analysis and PC design. They sought to digitalize and automate these critical construction components to meet growing demands timely and cost effectively.
Leveraging the comprehensive and robust features of Bentley STAAD, Hyundai created structural analysis models for transportation and lifting analysis, and PC design. Bentley’s application enables designers to evaluate the structural loading capacity of transport and lifting equipment and optimize concrete size, shape, and strength before the modules and concrete arrive on site. For both engineering processes, the new automated systems reduced annual outsourcing costs by more than KPW 750 million and design time by 70% to 80%. The technology provides a sustainable approach to construction, reducing energy consumption, waste, and carbon emissions.
AVS Engineers | ISID Architect Nikhil Mahashur and Associates Structural Engineer - Siddharth Sharma (AVS Engineers | ISID): Fairmont Udaipur Palace
Located in Udaipur, Rajasthan, the Fairmont property is a 500,000-square-foot luxury hotel set to become a landmark destination that boosts the local economy and preserves cultural identity. The complex terrain and architectural aesthetics presented structural challenges, requiring adaptive multilevel design, advanced retaining structures, and seismic compliance. To address these challenges and coordinate the multiple stakeholders, the project team realized that they needed an integrated and advanced structural modeling and analysis solution.
Leveraging Bentley RAM and STAAD, the team established a connected digital environment to model the various structural components and simulate the effects of wind and seismic activity amid terrain-based irregularities, optimizing structural integrity and material usage while adhering to the demanding architectural vision. The digital solution compressed the design schedule by four months, as well as saved 420 metric tons of steel and 2,400 cubic meters of concrete, reducing carbon emissions by 800 metric tons. By combining technical innovation, heritage sensitivity, environmental stewardship, and stakeholder collaboration, the project sets a new benchmark for responsible and efficient luxury development.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.: Skywalk at New Delhi railway station
DMRC’s New Delhi Railway Station Skywalk enhances urban mobility, reduces congestion, and promotes sustainability, providing seamless connectivity between the New Delhi station, adjacent metro stations, and a multilevel parking facility. Spanning 242 meters in the heart of central Delhi, the project’s dense urban setting presented site constraints and logistical challenges avoiding disruption to daily commuter flow. To accommodate the limited space and coordinate the multiple disciplines and stakeholders, DMRC needed flexible, integrated structural modeling technology.
Leveraging Bentley OpenBridge, RAM, and STAAD, DMRC established collaborative design and analysis workflows and a digital twin, enabling the team to efficiently explore multiple design options. Working in a connected structural modeling environment minimized rework and optimized material usage, saving up to INR 6 million in costs. The digital twin helped DMRC reduce concrete usage by 12% to 16%, contributing to a reduction in the project’s overall carbon footprint. Using Bentley applications, DMRC delivered durable, eco-friendly, and socially inclusive infrastructure, setting a benchmark for future transit projects.
