Morocco has inaugurated the Mohammed VI Tower in Rabat, which is among the tallest buildings in Africa and part of the Bouregreg Valley Development Project. The tower was officially opened earlier this week in a ceremony attended by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan. The structure rises to approximately 250 meters and includes 55 floors.
The building has a total floor area of approximately 102,800 square meters and includes office space, residential units, and an observation deck. Additional features include a multi-level podium and a system of elevators serving the tower. The project is located along the Bouregreg riverfront and forms part of ongoing redevelopment efforts in the area.
The project was delivered by Belgian construction company BESIX in partnership with Moroccan contractor TGCC under a design-and-build contract awarded in 2018 by O Tower, a subsidiary of O Capital Group. The scope of work included design, engineering, construction, façade installation, mechanical systems, and interior works.
Construction began in late 2018 and was completed in March 2026. The project was financed by the Bank of Africa, with an estimated cost of approximately 4 billion Moroccan dirhams (around $432 million). The tower has been designed to meet sustainability standards and is targeting LEED Gold and HQE certifications. Its façade incorporates design elements intended to improve energy performance.
The architectural design was carried out by Rafael de la Hoz and Hakim Benjelloun, with structural engineering by Ney & Partners and interior design by FLAMANT. The Mohammed VI Tower is currently one of the tallest buildings on the continent, while taller structures, including Egypt’s Iconic Tower, are under development.
