Denmark is taking a major step toward improving its transport infrastructure with the construction of the new Storstrøm Bridge. This project is a key part of modernizing the road and rail links between Scandinavia and the rest of Europe. To support safe and efficient construction under challenging environmental conditions and complex structural designs, Doka has provided an integrated formwork and shoring solution. This system helps ensure smooth, predictable progress throughout all phases of the project. When completed, the bridge will stretch about 3.8 kilometers, making it the third-longest bridge in Denmark and an important part of a major north–south transport route. Together with the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link, it will strengthen connections between Scandinavia and Central Europe, improving both passenger and freight transport.
The project required construction systems capable of adapting to changing structural shapes while also handling strong wind loads. Doka’s engineering approach provided the necessary stability and flexibility, allowing the construction team to maintain steady progress even as conditions evolved, especially in onshore sections where geometries were more complex.
Doka has been involved in the project since 2019, contributing to several key areas. Its work includes supporting the construction of approach bridges on both sides, each about 80 meters long, assisting with onshore prefabricated pierheads, enabling the cantilever connections between precast bridge segments and the pylon, and supplying the formwork for the pylon itself. In addition, Doka developed a custom working platform to support the final structural stages of the cable-stayed bridge.
At the center of the structure is the 102-meter-tall pylon, which plays a critical role in transferring loads safely to the foundation. The pylon features a complex design with varying geometry, built-in recesses, prefabricated openings, and protective casings for the stay cables. Because of its importance and complexity, this stage required a reliable and efficient support system. Doka used high-capacity SKE100 plus platforms to handle heavy loads and provide multi-level working areas, while more flexible SKE50 plus platforms were installed in tighter spaces. This combination allowed the team to work efficiently while keeping costs under control.
To complete the final structural phase, a specially designed working platform was installed around the pylon. Built step by step using the Staxo 100 load-bearing tower system, the platform was supported by fixed climbing brackets that reused existing anchoring points from earlier construction stages. Two integrated stair towers always ensured safe and easy access for workers. Firmly connected to the pylon, the platform provided stable and secure working conditions, even in demanding weather and load situations. This allowed the construction team to successfully complete the pylon, marking an important milestone in the overall project.
Doka’s contribution to the Storstrøm Bridge demonstrates how carefully planned engineering solutions can support complex infrastructure projects from start to finish. The bridge is expected to open to road traffic in 2026, with railway services scheduled to follow, further strengthening transport connections across the region.
