On Thursday 1st of August, a bridge collapsed due to a flash flood from the mountains in southwestern Saudi Arabia in Jizan province resulting in the death of one person. Specifically, officials had stated that two vehicles had been trapped by the floodwaters, while one of them crashed down after the waters swept away the bridge.
As of present, many people have been reported injured due to the incident, as the bridge junction that collapsed was on the mainland near the Red Sea port city of Jizan. It is noted that the area is experiencing two different climate profiles as the coastal area along the Red Sea has the highest temperatures in Saudi Arabia, in contrast with the mountainous areas that are significantly cooler and experience more rainfall even during the summer. Overall, the rainfall will continue the following week according to National Centre for Meteorology.
