Amazon building partially collapses: 2 people dead

A building of Amazon Fulfillment Center partially collapsed killing 2 people.

The facility is located in southeast Baltimore. The incident was reported on Friday 2 of October, 2018. 

According to Baltimore's Fire Department, a heavy storm forced a roof and a 50-by-50-foot wall to collapse into the building. "Last night, severe weather impacted one of our facilities in Baltimore City, resulting in two fatalities," Rachael Lighty, a spokesperson for Amazon said. "First responders remain on-site assessing the damage. The safety of our employees and contractors is our top priority, and at this time the building remains closed," he added.

The 2 victims were not Amazon employees but third-party contractors. Roman Clark, Baltimore's Fire Department Chief stated that the first one was found trapped under debris at the aforementioned warehouse. Rescuers managed to transport him to the hospital but he passed away later due to his injuries. The other victim was tracked down almost an hour later. Thermal imaging equipment was utilized to determine whether other people were trapped. Fortunately, nobody was found and no missing reports were issued.

Brandon McBride, an employee who was working in the building at the time, describes the moment that of the tragic incident: "I was standing inside the building and me and one of the facilities dudes were talking, and I went to the left side of the building and he went to the right, and all of a sudden, we just heard these loud noises. The power shut off. It was just crazy inside. It just sounded like bombs were dropping everywhere. The whole side (of the building) was just dropping."
