The cloud structural analysis software company SkyCiv this week announced it has added the ability to perform cross sectional analysis on sections. Being able to perform 2D analysis on your sections is extremely useful for determining the stresses and performing design on complex shapes.
To easily analyse sections and 2D shapes has been something that has been missing from our industry. There are a few products for this, but none available as an easy-to-use online software, available on a monthly subscription. This makes it easy for those once-off designs where you only need the software for a couple of months.
This feature is conveniently added on top of the existing Section Builder, which allows users to create simple and complex shapes with a range of modelling tools. For instance, we tested a complex shape by adding multiple shapes:
After adding all my sections, I added some forces on the left panel and ran the Analysis button to find a list of results, including:
From SkyCiv's release of this cross section analysis software, a few examples are shown:
The software also includes some handy capabilities around reinforced concrete design via their General Concrete Section Designer. Again, this is built on the same software, so making use of the modelling features helps a lot in designing custom and complex shapes.
Want to give it a go? SkyCiv offer a Free 14 Day Trial to their full package, so feel free to try it out today!
