On Thursday 20st of June, a catastrophic storm struck Albany’s Warehouse District around 5:30 p.m. local time. A four-storey 100 years old brick building partially collapsed. After the damage, the building was deemed unsafe due to multiple collapsed areas within itself and the unstable state that is as of present. Therefore, according to authorities, a major part of the structure will be demolished.
The damage after the storm, continued at 930 Broadway, where 80 apartment units were evacuated after water started pouring through the damaged roof according to eyewitnesses on the building.
Rick LaJoy, who is Albany’s Building & Codes Director stated that the storm affected and caused damages to several buildings throughout the city, not only in Albany’s district. Moreover, officials of Albany city reported that the night of the storm more than 18,000 apartments lost power for several hours. Fortunately, due to organized effort of national Grid’s crews the power was restored the same night.
