The Central Chilean coast was hit by an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 on Thursday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The earthquake occurred at 11:03pm (IST) at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The NCS tweeted the following: “Earthquake of Magnitude:6.2, Occurred on 30-03-2023, 23:03:12 IST, Lat: -35.66 & Long: -73.05, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Off Coast of Central, Chile”.
There haven't been any initial reports of earthquake-related damage or fatalities, so major damage is unlikely. Authorities may need several hours, particularly in remote areas, to conduct thorough damage assessments while over the next few days, aftershocks are likely. There have been no tsunami warnings arising from the incident.
