At least 17 people were killed and nine others injured when part of Ramabai Apartment in Virar East collapsed late Tuesday night. Officials said around 15–20 people were initially feared trapped under the rubble. Police, fire brigade, NDRF teams, and ambulance services rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations.
Locals reported that one wing of the two-wing building crumbled within minutes. Eight survivors were pulled out and taken to VVCMC Hospital, while authorities evacuated the other wing as a precaution. The rescue effort lasted nearly 38 hours.
