On Friday, July 4, a multi-storey building collapsed in Karachi’s impoverished Lyari neighborhood, Pakistan. The five-storey structure's collapse resulted in at least 27 deaths, while nine others were injured. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. local time. Rescue teams arrived promptly at the scene and began efforts to locate residents who may have been trapped beneath the rubble. According to a police spokesperson, it is believed that at least 100 people were living in the building.
Due to the building's location on a narrow street, rescue teams faced significant challenges, as they were unable to use heavy machinery. To ensure public safety and prevent further disruption, authorities evacuated nearby buildings while rescue efforts continued. It is believed that at least 10 people may still be trapped alive under the debris.

According to eyewitness accounts, cracks began appearing in the building shortly before the collapse. Approximately 20 minutes later, the structure gave way. The exact cause of the collapse remains unknown, though an investigation is underway to determine the reasons and identify those responsible.
