Nine fatalities after building collapses in Western India

At least nine people lost their lives after a building collapsed in Maharashtra, a state in western India, on Thursday night. The incident took place in Thane district, where emergency teams quickly launched a rescue operation to search for those trapped beneath the debris.

According to senior civil official Shrikrishnanath B. Panchal, the bodies of nine victims have been recovered so far. Authorities believe that around 10 to 12 people were initially trapped when the structure gave way. The building was reportedly undergoing repair work at the time of the collapse.

Rescue efforts remain ongoing, with officials warning that two or three people may still be trapped under the rubble. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered strict action against anyone found responsible for the incident.
