A pedestrian suspension bridge collapsed in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, while several people were crossing it. According to local reports, eight people were on the bridge at the time, including four minors. Several injuries were reported, but officials said no serious or life-threatening injuries were recorded. Those affected were examined by medical personnel, with some reported to have sustained bruises and abrasions.
The incident occurred on Karbyshev Street when part of the structure gave way. Emergency services and ambulance teams were dispatched to the scene shortly after the collapse. Preliminary reports suggest the bridge may have become unstable after children began shaking or swinging the structure.
According to the reports, the minors later admitted to swinging the bridge before the accident. Preliminary findings indicate that this movement may have damaged the wooden decking and contributed to the partial failure of the structure. The bridge has since been closed to the public while officials inspect the damage and continue investigating the cause of the collapse.
