Ludhiana, India: multi-storey building collapse leaves one dead, six trapped

On Saturday, March 8, a multi-storey textile factory collapsed in the Focal Point Phase-8 area of Ludhiana, Punjab, India, resulting in the death of one worker and severe injuries to six others. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and rescue teams, along with police, the fire brigade, Municipal Corporation, and factory department officials, promptly arrived at the site. Through an organized rescue effort, they successfully managed to pull the trapped workers from the debris.

Rescue operations are still ongoing to ensure that no one remains trapped beneath the rubble. Hardeep Singh Mundian, the revenue minister, and Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal emphasized that locating and assisting any remaining victims remains the top priority for the authorities.

Additionally, the deputy commissioner stated that the health department had deployed medical teams and ambulances to the site, ensuring medical support remains available until the operation is complete. Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation and fire safety department have deployed additional personnel to assist with rescue efforts.

The exact cause of the collapse is not yet known, but an investigation is underway to determine the reasons behind the incident.
