The Krishna Park project, located in a densely populated urban area, is part of the Delhi Metro Phase IV extension and includes structural design and construction of twin bore tunnels with cross passages, launching shaft, a cut-and-cover underground ramp and an underground station.
In early 2020, DMRC was assigned with the project and the major technical challenges that was facing were the difficult ground conditions, mainly soil with high water table, the old dilapidated buildings on the tunneling route and settlement.
The underground station and the cut-and-cover ramp was designed with Bentley’s STAAD, while the bored tunnel was design with PLAXIS. STAAD provided accurate 3D model designs in a timely manner and allowed DMRC to quickly modify their analysis due to site constraints throughout the project execution.
With the use of Bentley software optimization tools and the real time model analysis prior to work on site, DRMC was able to save approximately 1,000 working hours, optimize sectional properties of all structural elements and reducing them by 1,500 cubic meters of concrete and 250 megatons of reinforcement steel.
