A multi-story residential building collapsed in Makhachkala, the capital of Russia’s Dagestan region, following severe flooding triggered by heavy rainfall. According to the regional branch of the Emergency Ministry, the collapse occurred after prolonged precipitation led to rising water levels and inundated streets.
Authorities reported that no injuries occurred, as residents had been evacuated prior to the incident. Officials also identified four additional apartment buildings at risk of collapse on a nearby street, prompting the evacuation of approximately 300 people and the securing of the surrounding area.
The prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the incident, including an assessment of compliance with urban planning regulations and the effectiveness of local flood prevention measures.
The event follows a period of intense rainfall in the region, which has caused widespread flooding and infrastructure disruption.
