A 43-year-old German woman was killed on Saturday afternoon after part of a balcony collapsed in the Kalamia area of Corinth, Greece. The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. while she was walking along Pigasou Street with her husband and three children.
According to authorities, debris from a balcony of an abandoned or poorly maintained building fell onto the pavement, trapping the woman beneath rubble. Emergency services responded promptly and extricated her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head injuries.
The woman’s children, aged 4, 7, and 10, were present at the time. One child sustained a head injury that was later confirmed to be non-life-threatening, while the remaining family members suffered minor injuries.
The building involved had reportedly been unoccupied for an extended period. Local reports indicate that recent work had been carried out on the structure, though no protective measures or warning barriers were in place at the time of the incident.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and to assess potential responsibility. Reports indicate that a contractor linked to the site has been detained.
