On Thursday, May 8, a three-story residential building in the Al-Hassani district of Fez, Morocco, collapsed, resulting in 9 fatalities and 7 others severely injured. The injured individuals were transferred to the hospital for medical treatment. According to authorities, rescue teams from civil protection, along with local authorities and security services, promptly arrived at the site and began searching for people trapped under the debris.

Authorities set up a safety barrier around the collapsed structure, and extensive resources were deployed for the rescue effort. The Public Laboratory of Tests and Studies (LPEE) had assessed the building's stability in 2018 and deemed it unsafe. On November 15, 2018, they issued an evacuation order, classifying the building as posing a first-degree risk. While 8 families complied with the order, 5 families remained in the building.
