On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at approximately 7:40 AM local time, the Grand Bridge collapsed following a landslide caused by heavy rainfall in Sandu County, Rongjiang area, Guizhou Province, southwest China. The collapse occurred shortly after structural deformations were detected during a routine patrol. Authorities had already restricted traffic on the uphill lanes, which helped prevent any fatalities or injuries.
The exact reason for the deformation that led to the collapse is not yet known. However, officials have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
It is worth noting that the Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters in Rongjiang County had issued an emergency evacuation order due to rapidly rising river levels in Pingyong, Zhaihao, and Duliu. There are concerns that the water may surpass the 30-year flood benchmark.

As a result of the ongoing severe weather conditions, at least 70,000 people have been evacuated since last week. Approximately 300,000 residents across Guangdong Province have been affected by the flooding.
