Wooden bridge collapsed in Biswanath flood

The transportation situation has become critical in Sootea, Biswanath constituency, following the collapse of the wooden bridge linking Bokorapotta and Kuruwaati. The bridge, already weakened by age and neglect, was washed away on Tuesday by floodwater from the Ghiladhari River, cutting off access to the area. It is mentioned that over a hundred students from the area, studying at Sootea College, Sootea Higher Secondary School, Pub Sootea High School, and Bokorapotta ME School, are risking their lives by crossing the flooded river on makeshift banana rafts just to reach their classrooms.

Residents say they have repeatedly urged local MLA Pramod Borthakur to act, but no measures have been implemented. As a result, hundreds of villagers remain isolated, struggling without reliable means of communication or travel. One teacher shared their ordeal in which it is pointed out that since the bridge was destroyed, they are facing immense difficulties. Teachers wait by the riverbank to gather students and help them cross every day. Another resident added that this bridge was originally built by locals with their own contributions; neither the MLA nor the government has given a single rupee. Hence, they urge the Chief Minister to witness the conditions they are now enduring.
