The Grade II-listed Aldwark toll bridge, across the River Ure near Easingwold, in North Yorkshire which has been closed for 10 months to be renovated is due to reopen on Saturday. As the authorities reported, the cost of the renovation was 1 million pounds.
The Aldwark Toll Bridge spanning the river Ouse serves as the only bridge that connects York and Boroughbridge and it was initially built in 1772. The closure of the bridge meant a 25-mile round-trip for regular users, and for the students of the Great Ouseburn Primary, that were forced to take much longer school runs.
Bridge owner and operator Alex Bell said he was "thrilled" that the bridge will operate again as the project was delayed due to additional structural repairs and five floodings that happened during the renovation. He also, added that the business which ran the bridge had received no income for a year as a result of the closure. Therefore, they will request from the parliament to increase the toll.
