The proposal for a new bridge spanning the river Trent in Nottingham got approved on Wednesday 17 of April by council members after its first submission in February. This 87-meter structure marks the city's first new river crossing in over 60 years. The project will be overseen by the consultancy firm Pick Everard, working in collaboration with the infrastructure group Balfour Beatty.
The bridge is designed to connect the Trent Basin with the south bank of the river near the Hook nature reserve in Lady Bay, aiming to improve connectivity in Nottingham for pedestrians and cyclists. The project is estimated to cost around £12 million and is planned to be funded by the Department for Transport's Transforming Cities Fund.
It is worth mentioning, that the final decision will be up to Rushcliffe’s Borough Council, which is anticipated in the following months. However, at a recent meeting, councilors unanimously endorsed the plan, considering it a significant advancement.
Moreover, feedback from an online survey showed that the scheme will be supported by the public, with 83% in favor overall, 65% supporting the proposed location, and 75% endorsing the design.
