On Sunday, May 18, a one-storey building under construction collapsed around 3:30 p.m. local time in the Idi Araba area of Mushin, Lagos State. The incident resulted in one fatality, while three others sustained serious injuries and were transported to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
The collapse occurred at 96 Ishaga Road, directly opposite the Idi Araba Central Mosque. At the time of the incident, four construction workers were on site.
Emergency response teams, including the Isolo Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police, promptly arrived at the scene and initiated rescue operations to save the workers trapped beneath the rubble.
According to Ibrahim Farinloye, Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for the Lagos Territorial Office, search and rescue efforts continued throughout Sunday to ensure that no individuals remained trapped.
